The Kennesaw State Owls travel to face the Missouri State Bears on Wednesday, Oct. 14, seeking their first Conference USA victory of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at Robert W. Plaster Stadium in Springfield, Missouri. CBS Sports Network will televise a matchup between teams that both enter 1–4 overall and 0–1 in the conference.

Kennesaw State has lost its last two games by a combined four points. The Owls fell 17–14 to the Arkansas State Red Wolves before losing 27–26 to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Oct. 7. Those margins demonstrate that the team has been competitive, while also emphasizing how much a single possession can change its record.

Quarterback Rickie Collins threw for 293 yards against Jacksonville State. Brayden Munroe supplied 159 receiving yards in that game and enters the Missouri State matchup with 19 catches for 299 yards this season. Their connection gives Kennesaw State an established passing option as it prepares for another conference opponent.

Kennesaw State’s official preview lists an average of 23.4 points allowed through five games. The Owls have forced seven turnovers, including five fumble recoveries and two interceptions. Creating an extra possession can help, but the offense must capitalize on those chances to turn defensive contributions into a road victory.

Missouri State has lost three consecutive games, most recently a 34–13 decision against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. That leaves both teams looking for a response after opening conference losses. For Kennesaw State, maintaining control when the score is close will be especially important after its recent finishes.

Penalty reduction is another clear priority after the Owls drew 15 flags for 137 yards against Jacksonville State. Avoiding those losses can keep the offense ahead of the chains and reduce unnecessary opportunities for the opposing attack. Wednesday’s game offers Kennesaw State a chance to pair its demonstrated competitiveness with a cleaner complete performance.

GSB Take

Kennesaw State has recent evidence that it can stay within reach, but this trip needs to produce more than another encouraging margin. The Owls’ passing production and forced turnovers are useful starting points. Better discipline and stronger execution in decisive possessions would give those strengths a much greater effect on the final score.
