The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 20–17 on October 10 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Peyton Woodring kicked a 23-yard field goal with 5:25 remaining, and Georgia protected that lead through the final possession. The victory moved the Bulldogs to 6–0 overall and 4–0 in the Southeastern Conference while Alabama fell to 5–1 and 3–1.
Georgia received an efficient performance from Gunner Stockton and a needed lift from its rushing attack. Stockton completed 18 of 22 passes for 249 yards, threw a touchdown pass and scored on a 14-yard run. Dwight Phillips Jr. gained 120 yards on 17 carries in his first career start, helping Georgia finish with 455 total yards against Alabama’s 346.
The Bulldogs forced the first major mistake when Joseph Jonah-Ajonye stripped Keelon Russell and Quintavius Johnson recovered the fumble. Woodring converted a 43-yard field goal for the opening points, and Stockton later found London Humphreys for a 20-yard touchdown. That scoring pass followed a 53-yard reception by Jaden Reddell during a 93-yard drive.
Alabama answered with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Russell to Marshall Pritchett and a one-yard scoring run by EJ Crowell. Crowell reached the end zone on the final play of the second quarter, giving the Crimson Tide a 14–10 halftime lead. It was the first time Georgia had trailed this season, according to the Bulldogs’ official game recap.
Stockton’s rushing touchdown opened the second-half scoring before Conor Talty tied the game with a 39-yard field goal. Woodring missed a 39-yard attempt early in the fourth quarter but responded when Georgia returned to scoring range. Phillips and Bo Walker supplied important rushing gains on the 84-yard drive that produced the winning kick.
Georgia still needed to finish the game after moving back in front. The defense forced another Alabama punt, and Elyiss Williams caught a 17-yard pass on third-and-seven from Georgia’s own 10-yard line during the closing possession. The Bulldogs then used the remaining clock to secure their first victory in Tuscaloosa since 2007.
The result also gave Kirby Smart his first regular-season win over Alabama as Georgia’s head coach. His previous wins against the Crimson Tide came in the national championship game following the 2021 season and the 2025 SEC championship game. Georgia now returns home to face Auburn on October 17 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern at Sanford Stadium.
GSB Take
Georgia won a game that demanded patience, depth and execution in the final minutes. Phillips gave the offense a reliable answer on the ground, while Stockton made the late completion that kept Alabama from getting another opportunity. The Bulldogs will need that same discipline against Auburn, especially after a physical road game that left little room for mistakes.
