The Clayton State University Lakers drew 1–1 with Georgia Southwestern on October 21, recovering with a 77th-minute equalizer. Gallegos finished the scoring move after passes involving Fabian Wagner and Arttu Leivonen. The result left Clayton State 5–4–6 overall and 3–3–4 in Peach Belt Conference competition.
Second-half pressure produces an equalizer
The Lakers generated a 21–10 edge in shots, including a 15–3 advantage in the second half. Eric Cruz and Gallegos each attempted four shots. Cruz came close to a winner in the 86th minute, but his attempt struck the woodwork.
Clayton State’s goalkeeper made five saves to help keep the match within reach. The draw, combined with Lander’s loss to USC Aiken, moved the Lakers into third place in the conference at the end of Wednesday’s action. Clayton State is scheduled to host Middle Georgia State for Senior Day on October 24 at 3:30 p.m.
GSB Take
The second-half shot margin shows how firmly Clayton State pushed the match toward its attacking end. The remaining challenge is converting that control into a winning margin instead of another tie. With conference position still in play, the Lakers have reason to value the point while also recognizing how close they came to taking more.
