Columbus State University men’s basketball will host its Education Day game on Tuesday, December 15, at 10 a.m. The Cougars will face East Georgia State College at the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center. The university announced the invitation to area elementary schools on October 22.
Schools invited to the Lumpkin Center
Admission is free through support from Country’s Barbecue. Registered schools also receive free admission for accompanying teachers, staff members and bus drivers. School and classroom organizers can find the registration form in the official athletics announcement linked below.
The morning tipoff gives the event a different audience and atmosphere from a typical evening basketball game. It also creates a direct opportunity for younger students to experience a college athletic event in their region. Schools should confirm registration details and their own transportation arrangements before finalizing a trip.
GSB Take
Education Day is a useful way for a local college program to build relationships beyond its existing season-ticket audience. Including the adults who make a school trip possible removes an important barrier to participation. The basketball result will matter to the Cougars, but the broader opportunity is giving young spectators an experience that encourages them to come back.
