The Macon Mayhem signed defenseman Dylan Dreveny for the 2026–27 season through an October 3 announcement. The 24-year-old from Birmingham, Alabama, is preparing to make his professional debut. He spent the previous five years with the University of Alabama’s AAU/ACHA Division I club hockey program.
Dreveny recorded 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 108 games for the Frozen Tide. He also accumulated 82 penalty minutes during that period. The extended college club career gives Macon a substantial playing background to evaluate as he moves into the professional level.
His development included youth hockey with the Pelham Panthers and Huntsville Jr. Chargers. Head coach Dave Pszenyczny described versatility and work ethic as qualities the Mayhem expect from the addition. Dreveny’s Southern hockey background also connects his route to Macon with communities familiar to the region’s hockey fans.
The Mayhem added another prospective professional newcomer when they signed Tobin Winslow on October 1. Winslow played 38 games during a four-year college career at SUNY Brockport, according to Macon’s announcement. The two additions give the staff different college backgrounds to consider within the defensive group.
Macon has also kept experience in goal by bringing Josh Boyko back for his fifth season. The team’s September announcement credited Boyko with a .918 save percentage and 2.51 goals-against average in the previous campaign. That returning presence provides continuity behind a defense that is incorporating new candidates.
The Mayhem completed their preseason game with a 3–2 overtime loss at Athens on October 10. Their regular-season opener is scheduled at Athens on October 16 at 7:05 p.m. Eastern, followed by the October 24 home opener against Birmingham at 6 p.m. Dreveny’s next opportunity is to show how his college experience translates into the pace, positioning and decisions required by professional games.
GSB Take
Dreveny brings a lengthy college club background to his first professional opportunity. Macon’s evaluation should focus on his positioning, puck decisions and ability to handle pressure against faster opponents. If those details hold up, his versatility can give the Mayhem another useful option on the blue line.
