Goaltender Tyler Muszelik joined the Savannah Ghost Pirates from the Charlotte Checkers through an October 7 reassignment. Both clubs announced the move, with Charlotte identifying the Florida Panthers as the team directing the loan. The 22-year-old arrived as Savannah prepared for its lone preseason game and October 16 regular-season opener.

Muszelik made his professional debut with Charlotte earlier in October against the Hershey Bears. He stopped 20 of 23 shots in the Checkers’ 3–2 loss. The appearance gave him his first AHL game before the move to Florida’s ECHL affiliate.

The Long Valley, New Jersey, native played four seasons of college hockey at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut. Charlotte’s announcement noted that he signed a two-year entry-level contract with Florida on March 30, 2026. The Panthers selected him in the sixth round, 189th overall, in the 2022 NHL draft.

Savannah initially listed Vinnie Purpura as its only goaltender in the October 4 camp announcement. Charlotte had loaned Purpura to the Ghost Pirates with four other players on October 1. Muszelik’s arrival added another option as the team continued evaluating its crease before the season began.

The two goaltenders shared the work in Savannah’s 7–4 preseason victory over Jacksonville on October 9. The Ghost Pirates’ recap credited each with 10 saves on 12 shots. That exhibition supplied the staff with an initial look at the goaltending group after the reassignment.

Savannah hosts the Norfolk Admirals at Enmarket Arena on October 16 at 7 p.m. Eastern. The team’s camp schedule also includes an October 13 Green and Black scrimmage at the Ice Cove. Those preparations provide the next opportunity to organize assignments before opening-night decisions become clear.

GSB Take

Muszelik’s arrival gives Savannah another developing goaltender with college experience and an initial AHL appearance. The opportunity now is to establish a dependable rhythm through preparation and professional games. Savannah will benefit most if its defensive structure supports whichever goaltender receives the opening-night assignment.
